NIKUJAGA
(BEEF AND POTATO STEW)

INGREDIENTS
·200g (=half a pound) sliced beef
·3 or 4 potatoes (medium size)
·1 onion

sauce-A-
·2 tbsps sake (or white wine)
·3 tbsps soy sauce
·2 tbsps sugar
·1 slice ginger

1. Cut potatoes into small pieces (2 or 3-inch cubes). Soak them in cold water for 5 minutes.
2. Slice onion.
3. Put beef and sauce-A- into a saucepan and boil for a couple of minutes.
4. Take the beef out of the pan and add potatoes and onion. Add 1½ cups of water to the saucepan and boil.
5. Boil until the broth is reduced to less than half.
6. Put the beef back into the pan and boil again to warm up.
7. Say "Itadaki masu."
